GIGS
The Yarmouth Shantymen have performed in Maine, Quebec, New Brunswick and numerous places in Nova Scotia. The following is a list of the types of performances we do as well as some of our more memorable performances:
Waterfront occasions
in Halifax, Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, Shelburne, Yarmouth and Bar Harbor, Maine.
Aboard ships
including the replica of Capt. Bligh’s Bounty, vessels of the American Canadian Caribbean Cruise Lines (several times each summer between about1999 and 2002 and 2010), aboard the MV Princess of Acadia while crossing the Bay of Fundy in 2006, and aboard the MV Nova Star on passages between Yarmouth and Portland, Maine in 2014 and 2015.
Seafest & Coal Shed Festivals, Yarmouth
almost annually since 1991.
At the Yarmouth Arts Regional Centre
(Th’YARC) at a variety of events since 1985.
In 2007 provided live music for the play Billy Budd for the run of the play.
At Rodd’s Grand Hotel, Yarmouth
on many occasions for conventions such as the NS Pharmacy Society, NS Assoc. of Social Workers, travel writers' groups, CUPE, Red Hatters, etc., etc.
Special Occasions in Yarmouth
2011 – Opened the Mariners Centre with O, Canada for the first hockey game there.
2011 – Opening of Yarmouth Light Station, Cape Forchu
2012 – World Junior Hockey Championships
2013 – Unveiling of the Lost to the Sea monument
Charitable Performances
On a number of occasions each year we perform for a variety of charitable organizations as well as sing at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Veterans Place, etc.
Joint Concerts
with sea shanty groups Before the Mast (of Saint John, N.B.) in Yarmouth, Saint John and on Grand Manan; and with Pressgang Mutiny (of Toronto) twice in Yarmouth. We have also held joint performances with the Yarmouth women’s trio Chimera.
Notable Performances
1998
Fish Aid – we opened this festival in Yarmouth which featured such well-known performers as the Rankins, Lennie Gallant, JP Cormier, Jann Arden and Bruce Cockburn.
2003
La Fête des chants des marins, Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, QC, with shanty performers from Australia, France, and points between.
